Water Color Dahlia

00:49:00

I have seen so many beautiful water color cards and have LOVED them, but I have been quite timid to try it for myself.  Watercolor is so free, and I seem to have quite a hard time with that.  Anyway.... I am quite happy with how it came out!  I hope you like it too!

The challenge this week is Anything Goes at Love to Scrap Challenge Blog!  I chose a technique called "half n half" using a beautiful Digi Image from SNS Exclusive Line- Dahlia.

The image was printed two times.  The first was on Mixed Media paper, and the second was on patterned paper by KC & Company.  I offset the design and colored the image on the mixed media paper with Distress ink and a watercolor brush.  I started by coloring the darker areas with Picked Raspberries and Festive Berries, layering the color and blending it out with the water brush.  I liked the result, but thought that it was a bit too controlled looking.  After I let it dry, I added water to the base of the petals and then daubed a bit of color into the water and painted it around to get the right look.  Once it dried again, I colored around the edge of the petals with a marker.
I used a combination of Peeled Paint and Shabby Shutters for the background.  I applied the water first and daubed in the color to get that muddled look.

The dragon fly is a wooden veneer piece that I covered with the same patterned paper as the base paper.  I added some Liquid Glass and applied the clear beads for the body.

I sprayed a paper doillie with Tattered Angels glimmer mist and split the doillie on the top right corner and a little bit on the bottom left corner for balance.  I used a border punch b EK Success for the right edge of the base patterned paper.

I heat embossed the sentiment and watercolored the background.  I cut a notch out for the banner, and popped it up with pop dots.

The inside was finished off with patterned paper and matted with coordinating cardstock.  I added a bit of the doillie to tie in the design.

I am proud to enter this card into the following challenges:
